Throughout the years in NCC, one's rank will change from time to time, climbing up the hierachy and eventually make it to the top, one way or another. But what are the requirements? This post aims to inform you on how these ranks are achieved, so that you can set your goal on the rank you'd want.

Ranks' Information
--- Cadet's Rank ---
Private (PTE)-No Chevrons
Private (PTE)-No Chevrons
- Original Rank when first recruited into NCC
Lance Corporal (LCP)
-One Chevron
Requirements:
-Pass all beginner's Proficiency Tests (IFC Test, Footdrill Test, etc.)
conducted by Platoon Commander
- Attend at least one school-based NCC camp
-Minimum 75% Attendance of all training sessions
-Completed and achieved Total Defence Bronze
PROMOTION BY: CO
Corporal (CPL)-Two Chevrons
Requirements:
-Pass all intermediate Proficiency Tests (IFC Test, Footdrill Test, etc.)
conducted by Platoon Commander
- Attend at least one school-based NCC camp
-Minimum 75% Attendance of all training sessions
-Completed and achieved Total Defence Silver
PROMOTION BY: CO
--- SPECIALIST RANKS ---
3rd Sergeant (3SG)-Three Chevrons
-Differentiation between specialist and cadet
Requirements:
-Attend 4D3N Specialists Course conducted by HQ
*Pass all tests conducted during Course
-Complete TOTAL DEFENCE GOLD
PROMOTION BY: HQ
2nd Sergeant (2SG)
-Four Chevrons
-Achieved by Good Test Results in Specialist Course
OR
Internal Promotion
1st Sergeant (1SG)
-Five Chevrons
Requirements:
-Attend at least one formal & recognized Parade
Note: Rank can also be attained by good conduct and contribution to school unit
--- Senior Specialist Ranks ---
Staff Sergeant (SSG)
- Five Chevrons + Coat of Arms Crest
-Known as Drill Instructors
-Can don the coveted Red & White Lanyard
Requirements:
-Attend 3D2N Senior Specialist Course (SSC)
-Pass all tests conducted in Course; HQ approved
-Must have SAF-NCC badge to attend SSC
Master Sergeant
- Six Chevrons + Coat of Arms Crest
-Rank held by only the Sergeant Majors of the NCC unit
-Must be proficient in all aspects of NCC
-Highest Rank attainable in NCC Secondary School Level
Requirements:
-Successfully pass out from Senior Specialist Course
-Must have CO's recommendation & HQ approval
