The training on 8 Jul (Fri) is UG Day. All the uniformed groups in our school will gather together and learn about the skill sets of each UG.

Time: 2 pm to 6 pm
Meet at the atrium

NCC will be teaching IFC - Field Signals and Camouflage. NPCC will be teaching Field Cooking. GG/Scouts will be teaching knots and lashings. SJAB will be teaching First Aid - wounds. BB will be running an Amazing Race.

USM/ASM/S4 Spec are the prepare for the event.

Donation Cards

The following cadets are to return their donation cards to the school IMMEDIATELY. They are to hand over the cards and money personally to Mr Phoa, Mr Ang, Mr Chang or the General Office.

Part C: Hadzrul, Shamil

Cadets who do not return the donation cards to Mr Phoa by today are causing a great inconvenience to the unit. We are supposed to bank in the money before 30 Jun 2011. Therefore, cadets who do not return their cards on time may have their promotions delayed if they are unable to provide a satisfactory explanation.

2011 Nov Camp

The unit is intending to conduct a 3D2N Pulau Ubin Camp in Nov 2011. All three teacher officers will need to attend if this training is to take place. All cadets are to think about this and provide feedback.

NCC Day / SAF Day

1 July 2011 (Fri) is SAF Day / NCC Day. All NCC cadets are to wear their No.4 uniform to school to commemorate this. Please report for fitness programme at 0700 h if you are part of the programme. Do tell your teacher to be understanding as you are wearing No. 4 uniform.

There will be no morning NCC Day ceremonial parade. Please be in your classrooms for the SL presidential elections. The ASM will read the NCC Day message through the PA system.

We will have the afternoon NCC training as usual.

Only cadets who complete and pass the course successfully will be awarded with a certificate and a badge by SCDF at the end of the course. Water Ambassador Course on 7 Jun (Tue)

SANA Course on 1 Jun (Wed)

The Part B IMT is on 23 May (Mon). N(A) and N(T) cadets will dismiss early from kayaking. Kayakers at Changi will be brought to Kallang by Mr Ng. The bus will depart from Damai at 1.30 pm with Exp cadets and pick up kayakers at Kallang. Please hand in your consent forms! Revise your shooting -- this test is counted towards the BUC!

Results: 2 MM, 2 P and 1 F. Results are good but attendance is poor. Part A will have to compensate for Part B's low attendance.

Part A Affirmation Ceremony and Handing Over Ceremony

Camp FORGE

1.The 3 Day Specialist Courses conducted for Land Districts will be

Cadets will report to NCC Campus by 0800 hrs and return home at1800 hrs.
Meals will be provided i.e Tea break (AM), Lunch and Tea break(PM).

This is a picture of a stove and some solid fuel tablets (hexamine). They can also be bought at the army shop. The white cubes are solid fuels, and the metal structure is the stove. They are sold separately in the army shops.

Yes, at last, we have achieved a Silver Unit.

After getting a bronze unit for so many years, we are finally a step closer to our aim.

Part B 1-Star Kayaking has been postponed due to the SMIP retreat for key staff and miscommunication regarding the course. Apologies for the late discovery of this clash of dates.

15th-Anniversary Mural Painting Reflections

1. My hand have to be steady and firm in order to do a good job in painting.

2. With steady hands, I can hold things properly to do a job.

3. It help me to have more teamwork in the CCA and also help me to get CIP hours.

4. What I enjoyed the most is painting together to build more close relationship.

1. We need teamwork so that the job will be done easier and faster.

Discussing. We planned to mix the colour, planned to paint this, paint that.

Getting a painter to paint at parts that are very complicated.

2. It is the same as doing projects in a group. We cooperate with each other.

We should discuss about ideas. Expand it. And thats what the project needs.

Using the computer for research. It's fast and easy.

3. We took turns as there were insufficient paintbrushes. We talk with each other while painting to use the time chatting and having fun.

We communicate more than during CCA. It is fun having this activity.

It helps a lot. We had fun together. We chat after the painting was almost finished.

I think the mural painting is great! it pulls the relationship of our friends together or rather closer... It gives us a feeling that we should contribute to the public...we made their block a more enjoyable place! I think that this project made ncc cadets who participate closer and know more about them!

Fighting Dehydration with Water

Sweating is a way our body regulates its temperature. During a hot afternoon, you may sweat as much as 1 litre per hour! During exercising, the temperature of your body increases and you sweat more and lose more water. Lack of water can cause dehydration and dehydration can cause minor problems from headaches and muscle cramps to fatal ones like unconsciousness or even death. It is therefore good to drink water regularly during exercise.

It is recommended that you bring a water bottle with you whenever you exercise and drink adequate amount of water. A good guide to know when and how much you should drink is to follow your thirst. Another way is to pay attention to the colour of urine. Normally, it should be light yellow but once it turns dark yellow like chrysanthemum tea, you should drink up. A totally clear urine is overdoing it.

When drinking water, it is best not to drink too much at once. One should drink small quantities over the period of exercise. This is because our body responses through hormones have a certain lag time. When large amount of water is consumed at once, the osmotic pressure in the blood increases and the brain starts to produce less Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH) which decreases the reabsorption rate of water. Even when the osmotic pressure reaches the normal level, there is still an absence of the required amount of ADH to increase reabsorption. This may again cause excessive loss of water and leads to a secondary dehydration.

Basic Training Gear

All cadets, this are the things you should have when you come for training, PT not included.
You are expected to have all the compulsory items. Absence of training gear violates the basic uniform code and is punishable by the extent so please check and double check before you come for training. Excuses will not be entertained.

Compulsory items:
1) No. 4 shirt- No need to starch but its good to keep it neat and straight. Velcro to the max when you come for training.
2)No. 4 pants- No need to be ironed but should have all pockets buttoned like the no. 4 shirt.
3)Beret- This is one of the most important head gear. Make sure you bring it. Keep in pocket when not in use but conceal it.
4)Jockey cap- Used during IFC and Trainfire sessions as well as training and PTs. Make sure you bring it as it can sometimes replace the less comfortable beret.
5)Name tag- Sewn on and not Velcro. New tags are non-camo but older cadets need not get them changed.
6)Singapore Tag- Sewn on. Only issued to new cadets. Older cadets need not get them.
7)Epaulette- NCC epaulette is important to help MPs differentiate between a cadet and a soldier. Make sure you do not wear your no. 4 without your epaulette. For officers, the rank is also on the epaulette. (NOT "amulet"!)
8)Rank- Keep your rank updated. A cadet without rank may face temporary relief of position or may be punished.
9)Green Socks- Make sure your socks are green. Socks of different colour are not allowed and you will be punished. If your socks are damaged through training, get a new set. You may also want to have multiple sets when going for camps.
10)Garters- Garters keep your pants from covering your boots. Make sure you do not use rubber band substitutes. Cadets who did not bring garters will be punished.
11)Boots- Boots need not be polished to shine but should be darkened if there's mud or scratches.
12)Water bottles- All cadets are supposed to bring water bottles of at least 500ml for training consumption. From now, water breaks will have lesser canteen-going sessions and more stationary breaks. This is to improve training efficiency.
13)Pen/Pencil- All cadets must have either a pen or pencil in his pocket. The writing material should not be protruding or visible from outside.

*14)PE shirt-From now on, all cadets are expected to bring your half PT kit for every training. No excuses.

Optional items:
1)Wallet- So far, the only optional item is the wallet.

Ranks & How to attain them

Throughout the years in NCC, one's rank will change from time to time, climbing up the hierachy and eventually make it to the top, one way or another. But what are the requirements? This post aims to inform you on how these ranks are achieved, so that you can set your goal on the rank you'd want.

Private (PTE)-No Chevrons

- Original Rank when first recruited into NCC

Lance Corporal (LCP)

-One Chevron
Requirements:
-Pass all beginner's Proficiency Tests (IFC Test, Footdrill Test, etc.)
conducted by Platoon Commander
- Attend at least one school-based NCC camp
-Minimum 75% Attendance of all training sessions
-Completed and achieved Total Defence Bronze
PROMOTION BY: CO

Corporal (CPL)-Two Chevrons
Requirements:
-Pass all intermediate Proficiency Tests (IFC Test, Footdrill Test, etc.)
conducted by Platoon Commander
- Attend at least one school-based NCC camp
-Minimum 75% Attendance of all training sessions
-Completed and achieved Total Defence Silver
